The 6-speed manual transmission on the GR86 features a shifter that allows for quick and precise shifts. This allows the driver full control over the car’s power delivery, allowing them to accelerate out of corners with confidence. The manual transmission also allows for heel-and-toe downshifting, which can further enhance the driving experience.
The 6-speed automatic transmission;however, features paddle shifters with Dynamic Rev Management. This system automatically taps the throttle on downshifts, which helps to smooth out the gear changes and maintain the car’s stability. Paddle shifters also will allow for manual control over the transmission, giving the driver the ability to choose the ideal gear for any given situation.
When you toggle to Track Mode, the tachometer’s display changes to bring important information like RPM and gear into focus, giving you the information you need to make precise shifts and optimize your acceleration.
In addition to the display changes, Track Mode also dials back the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system. This allows the car to reach the limits of grip without the VSC intervening, giving the driver more control over the car’s handling. This is especially useful on the track, where you want to push the car to its limits without the electronic aids interfering.
The Toyota GR86’s interior strikes a balance between sporty and premium, with a focus on providing a high-quality driving experience. GR86’s modern interior comes standard with an automatic climate control system that utilizes turbine-style air vents. Its premium dashboard and center console with silver-finished toggles and available aluminum sport pedals also raise the bar on the quality inside. Also, you can fold down the rear seats to make room for an extra set of track tires and tools bringing the balance between utilitarian and sport together in one package.
GR86’s 8-in. touchscreen comes standard with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® compatibility. With your download, you can get directions, have your messages read aloud to you, and text back by voice, all while keeping your hands on the wheel. In addition the GR86’s infotainment system also includes standard Bluetooth® wireless technology for hands-free calling and audio streaming. There’s also a USB port for charging your devices and playing music from a flash drive.
